Are We Doing Church Wrong? | What the Bible Actually Says

What does the Bible actually say a church should look like?

For many people, church means attending a Sunday service, listening to a sermon, singing a few songs, and going home. But when we examine the first-century church described in Acts, we discover something much more personal.

In Acts 2:42–47, the early believers devoted themselves to biblical teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer. They cared for one another, served their communities, shared the gospel, and built relationships that extended far beyond their weekly gatherings.

In this message from The Church at 242, we continue our study of the biblical church by examining how the early Christians lived out their faith.

Through passages in Acts 2, 6, 14, 15, 18, and 20, we explore what it means to be a church that follows the example established in Scripture.

In this sermon, we’ll consider:

* Why biblical teaching must remain the foundation of the church.
* What genuine Christian fellowship looks like.
* Why ministry and service belong to every believer.
* How the early church handled disagreements and maintained unity.
* Why missions and community involvement matter.
* What it means to truly belong to the body of Christ.

The church was never intended to be simply a building or a weekly event. It is a living body of believers united through faith in Jesus Christ.

The question is simple: Are we being the church God has called us to be?

Join us as we examine the biblical example and consider how we can put these principles into practice today.
