What is the church?
For many people, “church” means a building, a Sunday morning service, or an organization. But when Jesus said, “I will build my church,” He was talking about something much greater.
In this message, we begin a new series examining the biblical meaning of the church, the ekklesia. We look at how the word is used throughout the New Testament, why Jesus Christ rather than a building, tradition, or individual is the foundation of His church, and what it means for us to live as the body of Christ today.
The church must live within its culture without allowing that culture to define it. At the same time, we cannot become so bound by religious traditions and man-made rules that we lose sight of the freedom and mission Christ has given His people.
Jesus did not call us simply to attend church for an hour each week. He called us to be His church.
“The church is the representation of Christ on the earth today.”
Scripture: Matthew 16:13-18; Isaiah 28:16; Acts 19; Daniel 2
Join us as we begin exploring the biblical blueprint for the church and ask an important question: Are we becoming the church Jesus established us to be?
