What Do You Do When God Seems Silent?

What do you do when you’ve prayed, waited, and still see nothing happening?

In 1 Kings 18, Elijah knew God had promised rain. But when he sent his servant to look toward the sea, the report came back: “There is nothing there.”

So Elijah kept praying.

Seven times the servant went back to look. Finally, he saw something: a cloud as small as a man’s hand.

The tiny cloud wasn’t the reason Elijah believed. Elijah believed because God had already spoken. The cloud was simply the first visible evidence that God was keeping His promise.

In this message from 1 Kings 18:41-46, we look at what Elijah teaches us about prayer, patience, obedience, and trusting God when we cannot yet see what He is doing.

Sometimes the question isn’t, “Where is my tiny cloud?”

The deeper question is, “Who am I following?”

Follow Him when the fire falls from heaven. Follow Him when the sky is empty. Follow Him when you’ve prayed and nothing has changed. Follow Him when all you can see is a tiny cloud. And follow Him when the rain finally comes.
